October Pass the Book - Tantalizing Textures

It's time to start the October Pass the Book:Year Two book on its journey. (If you're new to Pass the Book:Year Two, check out all the details here.) Tantalizing Textures: Ideas and Techniques for Scrapbookers by Trudy Sigurdson is filled with inspiration and ideas for adding textures to your layouts and other projects using textiles, metals, natural elements, art mediums, paper and clear elements. There are tons of layout ideas and examples.

And step-by-step instructions for many techniques.

And examples of various craft projects including cards, album covers, and other altered items.

One technique that I just had to try out involves using mini-brads as decorative elements on flowers to add color and texture. Here's one that I made using a white paper flower and red and blue mini-brads.

Following along with prompt four at the Pretty Paper Party, I created a layout using stripes and dots. I used four patterned papers and a few strips of solid cardstock for this layout plus four different sizes of ric rac and a sheer ribbon. Once I'd added my title and the embellished flower, I decided it looked complete and didn't need further embellishment. What do you think?

Journaling reads: You just gotta love it when you try a new recipes and it looks just like the picture in the magazine and tastes even better.

If you'd like a chance to be the first recipient of Tantalizing Textures, please leave a comment telling me how you add texture to your pages. I'll post the winner on Friday.

  1. Your layout looks delicious! I think with all the colorful paper strips, you were right to not further embellish the page. Go Rangers!

  5. Fab page and it matches the fruit colours so well. Looks like a great book - I add the embellishments but need to transfer my art journalling techniques more to my scrap book pages x

  9. Melissa - love, love, love your red, white & blue layout! Its amazing! I never did much with texture until this past year and now I'm saving all kinds of materials - I've gotten some unique packaging materials I've used on my layouts. I'm playing with some bubble wrap and paint. I think its just a matter of looking at everything as a possible source!

  10. Your layout is great! The flower is just perfect. I usually add texture to my layouts by tearing paper and also adding ribbon and buttons and so on. Would love to read this book, it looks really interesting!

  11. The book looks fabulous, really interesting - and so does your lovely layout! :)

Me, I tend to mainly add texture via the papers I add - sometimes by crumpling and distressing, sometimes by layers. I quite like machine stitching, too. And using paint is fun for particular layouts. And, of course, I add Thickers for a dimensional title nearly every time!

Those mini brads are so effective on your gorgeously vibrant page - a very neat trick.
