The Seventh Day of Christmas - Holiday Shopping & Storytelling Sunday

My Layout - Gifts Will Be

Today's layout focuses on the gifts we make & buy each year at Christmas time. I followed the basic design of Amy Tan's layout and used her title and similar journaling describing where my gifts come from each year. I included a couple of photos of handmade gifts, a photo of me at the mall, and the side of an Amazon box (where we order most of our books and lots of other things at Christmas time and throughout the year).

I really like all the dimension on this layout. I didn't want the cardboard to be sticking up awkwardly, so I added a dimensional border strip underneath it. The title/journal block is mounted on the cardboard, so I used foam dots under it at the top to keep it level. I also used foam dots to mount the Gifts Galore die cut I colored in.

Of course, I just can't let this first Sunday of the month (& year) go by without a story for Sian's Storytelling Sunday. So, here's a shopping story for you.

Quite a few years ago (when my sister Brenda was pregnant with Pun'kin!), me and Mama and Brenda and her friend Donna drove the 2 hours to Houston for an all day shopping spree. Brenda wanted to go to the Babies R Us store since we didn't have one anywhere near our homes. The store was right on Interstate 10, so we would have no problem getting to it.

However, we missed the exit and saw the store over to our right as we drove past it. I took the next exit and turned around, and we laughed at our mistake as we passed the store, which was now on our left. I took the next exit and turned around, and stayed on the access/highway road only to discover that there was another exit to get over to the store - we waved as we passed the store again on our right. Once again I turned around and we passed the store on our left, laughing almost uncontrollably at this point. Finally, we took all the right exits and found ourselves pulling into the parking lot, the four of us laughing so hard we could hardly catch our breath.

I turned around and looked at Brenda in the back seat and said, "After all this turning around, you had better buy something at this store!" And she did!

Happy New Year Y'all
I hope your 2012 is filled with laughter!

  2. What a fun story. It's those unpredictable moments that usually give us the greatest laughs.

  3. Oh I remember Babies R Us shopping whilst in the US, they didn't exist here in the UK then. Those exits can be very confusing glad you perservered.

I've not put together the BPC layouts yet - done the first two and will sort/order photos for the remainder this week. I like the idea of using the Amazon box - they are a common sight around here!

  5. Lol, sounds like Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, England. It is so simple it really is, so why I cannot get to Hobbycraft there without going round Asda's carpark at least twice I do not know!

    Happy New Year :)

  6. It sometimes seems as though these big stores don't want you to get in doesn't it? Great story :)

  9. LOL - your story reminds me so much of my DH telling me about trying to get to his hotel (in funnily enough Houston) and they could see it just couldn't find the right exit to get off for it.
