Although I shared this story in a previous post, I am revisiting it again today as part of Sian's Storytelling Sunday, a fun blog activity that takes place on the first Sunday of each month when Sian encourages us to tell a story in words or photos
As I was sorting through my travel embellishments a few days ago, I discovered a small printed SOS bottle, and that little slip of paper immediately sparked the inspiration to create a layout about our message in a bottle. This layout will go in our 10th Anniversary Cruise album.
Journaling reads: Robbie had this message planned ahead of time. He saved this bottle and packed it in his luggage, and we made a stop at Home Depost to pick up a cork before heading to the dock the day we boarded the ship.
It's been six months and we haven't received a letter or email saying that anyone has found our message, however we have enjoyed concocting our own stories about what might be happening to it. I personally think it is still floating along somewhere in the Carribean - going one way for a while, then being swished in the other direction as yet another huge cruise ship sails by (we were amazed at the number of cruise ships we encountered on the seas and in the ports we visited). Robbie speculates that it may have somehow traveled out into the Atlantic Ocean and will some day land along the coast of Africa. And then, of course, there's the possibility that it's washed ashore in an unpopulated area where it will languish in obscurity forever.

I love the idea of messgaes in bottles. I used to spend hours searching for them on seasides holidays
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it's been six months already since your cruise! Still love this story...
ReplyDeleteOh what a fun thing to do. And a cool layout too. I bet the bottle message makes its reappearance at a most serendipitous time - life is like that, you know.
ReplyDeleteCute idea - perhaps you'll still recieve something you never know!
ReplyDeletehow lovely would it be to one day receive a reply. Great layout!
ReplyDeleteI like that you are enjoying thinking about the stories now :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to find a message in a bottle like yours! Such a great idea
ReplyDeleteOh, I do hope it washes up on my shore. Now wouldn't that be something! It's lovely though to imagine the journey it is making and the stories it could tell.
ReplyDeleteAs a teen I had romantic ideas about finding a message in the bottle on beach trips. I hope someday ya'll learn what happened to yours :)
ReplyDeleteOh the stories that bottle may tell!
ReplyDeleteIt will be so fun if you ever do hear something!
ReplyDeleteI hope you hear something one day!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a reply!
ReplyDeleteAnticipating a response to your message-in-a-bottle probably adds a bit of enthusiasm to checking the mail each day. I do hope you receive that reply one day!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be fun if one of your blogfriends came across it!

Now, as I unpack I'm thinking - wouldn't it have been so cool if we had seen it floating past our cruise ship? Imagine that! The longer it stays quiet, the better the story when someone finds it, I think. What a perfect story to keep my holiday feeling going for a little bit longer. Thanks Melissa!
ReplyDeleteI'm back to catch up with the rest of your posts today - and when I got to here I realised I hadn't pinned your lovely layout to the SS board. I'm going to do it right now!
