Today I'm sharing a new vocabulary word as part of Sian's Storytelling Sunday. Sian encourages us tell our stories in words and/or photos. My story is about a new vocabulary word that Robbie and I have recently invented. It's a funny story that I wanted to scrap; just something that happened in this midst of our everyday life. There wasn't a photo to go along with it, but since it's a story that all started with our habit of working crossword puzzles, I grabbed a few puzzles we'd recently completed and set to work on the layout.
Here's a closer look at the journaling so you can read the story for yourself.
And now for those of you guessing what was different in this recent post, I guess it wasn't as obvious as I thought. Many of you guessed that there was something different about my BLOG, like maybe a new header or background. Nope - all those items have stayed the same since January. The difference was actually in the writing of the post itself - I actually named the products I was using. It's just a little thing that some of you do, but I hardly ever pay attention to which product was manufactured by which company, etc. Since I was using some new items, I included that information. (But please don't expect that very often! LOL) The other difference was also very subtle - it was my very own layout, not inspired by someone else's layout, not scraplifted from another blog, not created as part of an assignment for a class - just a fun layout of my own design (like today's layout).
Now be sure to head over to Sian's blog to read more August stories.
Sian's theme for August is summer love, and I really like how your story reflects the obvious love between you and your husband.

i shall be using that word now!!
ReplyDeletebrilliant post Melissa I love hearing how families come up with new words or sayings because of a simple mispronunciation or misunderstanding! Crosswords are meant to be good at keeping the brain going so maybe I should start as mine is getting sluggish!
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the word in my head, I said it the same way! I love that you've utilised it in everyday, too!
ReplyDeleteI saw the word, but didn't see the meaning coming! LOL! Love the layout.
ReplyDeleteI love that story! You two crack me up!
ReplyDeleteGreat Story at first I thought it might be a new kind of word puzzle.
ReplyDeleteI think Rinda said it all! But I'm expecting your new word to catch on around blog world now - you never know where it will pop up next..so thank you for raising a smile by adding this cute loving story to the Storytelling Sunday collection today
ReplyDeleteI love it! I read the word the same as your husband. We also have words we say all the time that are not correct. My husband pronounces album and alblum and then we laugh. Nice story!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing glimpses of your relationship with dh! I tend to ignore products too unless I need to note them for some reason so wouldn't have seen that one - congrats on getting time/motivation/inspiration in creating your own LO, always nice to have time to do that!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you do crosswords together and invent your own language. Such a happy story.
ReplyDeleteLovely story Melissa..I thought it was going to be a new word puzzle too!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
I pronounced it exactly like Robbie when I was reading lol Love that ya'll have a special fun word ;)
ReplyDeleteA lovely heartwarming story Melissa:) I was at a funeral on Friday and the couple had been married for 35 years, her husband got up to speak and he told a humerous story of how when he was doing the crosswords, he would look at the answers at the back and she would say "don't do that, ask me". She loved crosswords and knew the answers :) It was lovely to hear these things of her.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the story :)
I really have enjoyed your little story today Melissa - it's a great word!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this was my first laugh of the day! When I read your post title, I also pronounced it "say-dock". And then the rest of the story. ROFL
ReplyDeleteToo funny! And using the word as you do will keep this memory fresh between the two of you. Love it!
Well, you had me at the title of your blog post - because like Robbie - I didn't see it. This weekend we were with family and several of us were working to finish up the LA times puzzle - I don't think every block was filled before the party broke up. But it's nice to have a second and even third pair of eyes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great layout! I love how you scrapbooked an "everyday" moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what it says about me that my brain saw "said ok" when i looked at the title. There always has to be one in the crowd right? great story.
ReplyDeleteThat's made me smile! It highlights your lovely relationship that it's now slipped into your joint vocabulary. :)
ReplyDeleteI love made up family words, the stories behind them are always such fun. Our fav made up word is 'dunch' as in dinner and lunch in one. I have no idea if other families use the same word but we made it up while on a holiday in Florida. We always ate a late lunch (to avoid the crowds) which was HUGE and we never felt like dinner, so we started saying we were stopping for Dunch :-) The kids still use it now.
