It all began with the Week One Make & Take - a rosette card. Of course, May Flaum's example was not a Christmas card, however I copied her idea to use a piece of patterned paper (happy holidays), a stamped background piece (the grid design), stitching around the card (yes, I used my sewing machine again!), and a rosette to complete my first card of the year. Honestly it's not my favorite card, but hopefully someone will appreciate the thought when the holiday season rolls around.
These next four cards were created with the idea of choosing "one thing" that has been in my stash and let that item be the inspiration for the card. I chose (1) a large flower cut from patterned paper, (2) a toy soldier sticker, (3), a Christmas tree sticker, and (4) a stained glass window die cut.
I used the same concept for these next four cards - choosing an older item from my stash - and then scraplifted the designs from other card inspiration in the workshop. I chose (1) the JOY word paper & two stamped wreaths [which I colored and added a bow to], (2) a journal box & ornament die cut, (3) a bell die cut & bow sticker, and (4) a printed ornament [which I colored in and mounted on punched scalloped circles].
This last card is my favorite, not only because it uses a page from an old book, but because the title of one of the chapters in the book was so perfect! I also added my favorite Santa stamp and colored it in.

ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to make my cards again this year, though I'll admit I usually stick to a very simple design and make lots the same. I really like the first card..I like the red and white. It has a folk art look
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting so many done. The last book paper is my favourite - because I like the chapter title :)
ReplyDeleteI swapped to photo cards a few years ago so they tend to be all the same except for the dozen of friends who don't get photos :) But when I do make cards I often follow that idea of being inspired by something in my stash.
Totally impressed that you are making Christmas cards! I think the last one is my favorite, too, but they are all wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou really have a lot of "old stash" to play with don't you? I haven't given much thought to Christmas cards yet, although I suppose playing with old stash would be a good way to pare down some of my Christmas supplies as I slowly work my way to being totally digital for scrapping!
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea to select one item from the stash to use as inspiration. I might have to try that. I'm sending out fewer handmade Christmas cards this year, but hope to individualize them more. But I'm not nearly ready to start on them.

ReplyDeleteI've made my Christmas cards for years. This year I'm actually thinking about doing a photo card, but I haven't made up my mind. I know I have to have the designs finalized by October if I want to have them ready to mail in early December. I typically make just two or three designs. One year they were all different and it took me forever to decide who would get each card!!!
ReplyDeleteI do a combination of handmade cards and photo cards. Haven't started on the handmade ones yet, but plan to do the six on the sixth challenge for the rest of the year, making quick Christmas cards from kits I make up.
