I'd like to tell you that I eat three well-balanced healthy meals and three light snacks and drink eight glasses of water each day.
To be more specific, I'd like to tell you that every morning I have a bowl of oatmeal with a sprinkling of cinnamon, a boiled egg, and a half cup of orange juice for breakfast, and that my mid-morning snack consists of a piece of fresh fruit. I'd like to tell you that when lunchtime arrives I make a nice well-balanced meal from leftovers and enjoy an afternoon snack of a few pretzel chips and some hummus. I'd like to tell you that I take time to prepare a healthy supper each evening with the proper portions of lean protein, whole grains, and fresh vegetables, and then enjoy a very light snack before bedtime.
I'd like to tell you all these things, but the truth is that so far this year I have fallen short of these healthy eating habits. Here's a look at what I ate on Monday.
I did fairly well on my meals (top row) and drank six glasses of water, however, did you notice a lack of fruit and an over-abundance of (leftover-from-National-Scrapbook-Day) chocolate snacks, which, of course, go down best with an ice-cold Coca-Cola (bottom row)? Despite the fact that I planned to take photos for this blog post of what I ate all day, I still couldn't resist that chocolate in the pantry! (It's all gone now - whew!)
So, each day I start over, trying to make better choices, patting myself on the back when I do, giving myself grace when I don't. I often think that one day I'll do a big purge so that there are only healthy food and drink choices in the house . . . someday soon!
Today I'm linking up with Cate and her challenge to blog every day in May. Click here to join in!
I'm not sure I would offer up photographic evidence of what I consume in any given day!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ruth, I'm not sharing. Until I get my act together at least!
ReplyDeleteI agree...no way would I take photos of what I eat all day and share it!! And you know, if there's chocolate in the house it HAS to be eaten!!

very similar to what I eat...just substitute Pepsi for the Coke!!
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't share...far too much unhealthy stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery brave of you to be so honest :). And there is plenty of good stuff in here. As you so wisely remind us, tomorrow is another day!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading a book called The Small Change Diet. It's really helped me get a grip on portion control and healthy eating. Although a majority of my grocery bill has come from the produce department for quite awhile now.
ReplyDeleteI"m all about portion control and balanced protein, carbs and healthy fats (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!).
ReplyDeleteMy last physical blood work turned out really well; I think mainly as a result of this. Plus my blood pressure was also quite good because of diet and exercise.
So it definitely pays off.

I think you hit the nail on the head. All we can do is keep trying to make better choices. And when we don't---just pick ourselves up and start again. Some days are better than others. I'm thinking about trying one of those juice cleanses. We'll see....
