March Top Five #1

As part of my year of INSPIRATION, each month I am challenging myself to scrap my Top Five (photos or stories or events) from the previous month. I'm a little behind on this goal, but am excited to start on my March Top Five now.

This weekend is Jennifer Grace's Focus Your Craft and Soul free online event, so I know there will be lots of INSPIRATION and ideas throughout the weekend. Here's a little description from Jennifer Grace's blog: There will be lots of crafts, tutorials, challenges, tips, a blog hop, and of course some lovely giveaways! The theme for the event is loosely based on my word-of-the-year ‘Focus’. This will cover a variety of ideas on how to focus your crafting, about living in the moment, making sure you appreciate the little things, and how to use focal points. We’ll also be using a lot of icons like targets, frames, arrows, triangles, and cameras!

The first story I want to tell from March is all about sunshine, and I originally envisioned filling a round "sun" with arrows based on one of the weekend's first challenges. I found this perfect patterned paper in my stash.

I also used one of those INSPIRATION pieces (the one in the middle) that I shared in my last post  as a starting point.

As you can see, I ended up cutting the yellow arrows from the patterned paper and using them to enhance the sunshine theme of the layout. Journaling reads: Our mail carrier, Lynette, always has a smile and an upbeat personality, despite the fact that she has to get out and put packages on our porch many times a week. One rainy day in March I laughingly said, "If you see any sunshine, bring it my way." The next day the sun was actually shining & I found a note in my mailbox! This delivery note totally made my day, so I left a thank you note in the mailbox for Lynette to find the following day! I love that we have such a great carrier!

All the smaller papers on this layout came from my scraps file, including the piece with the heart cut out (which I used on this mixed media canvas last year) and some paint chips from the hardware store.

It's actually supposed to rain most of the weekend here with the possibility of severe storms and tornadoes. A perfect weekend (minus the tornado threat!) for staying in my craft room and enjoying the Focus Your Craft and Soul event. Will you be joining in?

  1. It's unlikely that I'll have time for any scrapbooking this weekend (again!) but I'm enjoying the posts I've been reading focussing on Jennifer's event
