Dallas Farmer's Market

We are home from our road trip (will be posting photos next week). Driving through Nebraska a few days ago, we stopped at a roadside vegetable stand and bought 12 ears of corn, 3 tomatoes, and a small sack of new potatoes. We have really enjoyed the freshness of those vegetables the last couple of days and decided to check out the Dallas Farmer's Market today.

There are four sheds at the downtown Dallas Farmer's Market, however we only visited one of them today. It was full of fresh fruits and vegetables, and since the temperature was already climbing above 90 degrees we made our choices and headed back to some air conditioning! We are planning to make visits to the Farmer's Market a regular event. Here are some of the items that were being offered in Shed One today.

I really liked the fact that there are little signs that designate foods that were locally grown. Here's a look at what we brought home.

We decided to try a new-to-us vegetable - 8 ball squash, which is a spherical hybrid of zucchini. I know this because there was a sign telling me, not because I had ever seen it before. There was also a recipe suggestion for stuffed 8 ball squash (similar to stuffed bell peppers) that I am going to try out one day soon.

Hope you are having a fresh vegetable kind of day!
