First, I must admit that I did not know who Freddy the Flute was when Robbie first showed me a photo of a reproduction that he'd seen posted on one of the numerous collectible toy sites he visits. Honestly, even after we watched an episode of H. R. Pufnstuf on YouTube, I don't remember. It's possible that I never watched the show or that it didn't make enough of an impression on me that I remember it 30 plus years later.
However, Robbie has a great memory for details and since he doesn't start his new MBA classes until next Monday, he decided to utilize his time and creativity making his own Freddy the Flute. Robbie is in fact extremely talented and creative - he won several art contests in school and still enjoys sketching, building models and creating his own trading cards. Here's a look at his creation, made with PVC pipe & fittings, gold leaf, foam, gold lamé, black cardstock, gold paint pen, ribbon and bling.
Freddy the Flute will reside on one of the collectible toy shelves, right beside (you guessed it) H. R. Pufnstuf himself.
I'm curious how many of you remember Freddy the Flute? Do you have a favorite show from your childhood that might inspire a creative project this week?
I remember The Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo (Mr. Moose, Mr. Green Jeans, Tom Terrific) but I sure don't recall any Freddy Flute. Of course, I wasn't a child thirty years ago either!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Freddy Flute - but then maybe he never made it over here. But I do know what a flute looks like like - and this is very clever!
ReplyDeleteI'm another with no recollection of Freddy the Flute - but he's beautifully done! You have a talented man there ...
ReplyDeleteI remember! I'm a child of the late 70s/early 80s, and HR Puffnstuff was BIG in our house! great looking flute!
ReplyDeleteWow- that Freddie the Flute is awesome! I don't remember him, but I remember HR Puffnstuff, and Miss Witchie singing a song about how nothing rhymes with oranges.
