Finding Your Way Layouts

We are in the second week of the Finding Your Way workshop at BPC. The main focus of this workshop is to pay attention to our scrap process and discover what we most enjoy and is most authentically us. I had hoped to create one layout each day, however the first thing I discovered about my style is that I like to scrap when I'm inspired, not on a schedule. Therefore, I am simply completing layouts as time permits and inspiration hits. Here are my latest layouts and what I'm learning along the way.

Finding Your Way #3 - Inspired by a birthday layout in a recent Creating Keepsakes magazine. I liked the idea of grouping photos from throughout the day with a small strip of journaling to describe the day. I also included two pieces of memorabilia - the wrapper from a mint at lunch and the logo for the restaurant cut from a business card where we had dinner. This layout will go in our LOM Days We Celebrate album. One thing I'm certain about my scrapping habits - I like to scraplift layout ideas!

Finding Your Way  #4 - The March challenge at Scrapbooker's Anonymous is to use at least seven flowers on your layout. I had saved the invitation to our dear friend Iris's 60th birthday party to use on a layout with the group photo taken at the party. I knew the layout wouldn't need much else since the invitation was so colorful and contained all the journaling information that was needed. I simply added seven flowers to create some dimension on the layout. This layout will go in our LOM Family & Friends album. Another lesson I'm learning about my scrapping - I like to use memorabilia on my layouts.

Finding Your Way #5 - I created another 2-page layout for my 8x8 DIY album. These pages showcase the Decoupage TV Stand that was my first ever furniture decoupage project. It's a simple layout, but my favorite part of this layout is the album it will go in. I really like having this DIY album that I can continue to add to.

I pulled out the 8x8 album I purchased last year to house this theme album and decided it was time to decorate the cover. This album will hold layouts about our DIY projects (like the compost bin and paperback bookshelf Robbie made) and crafts (like these diaper cakes I make as gifts). I adhered the pocket of an old pair of jeans to the front of the album, then added stickers and letters.

Since this album highlights projects and crafts that both Robbie and I create, I was delighted when he added some detail to the tan Projects letters, thus adding his touch to the album cover.

I am enjoying the Finding Your Way workshop, especially all the interaction on the message boards and reading what others are learning about their scrapbooking style. Here's a recap of what I've learned about my style so far:
1. I like to scrap when I'm inspired, not on a schedule.
2. I like to scraplift.
3. I like to use memorabilia on layouts.
4. I like ongoing theme albums.

  3. Another interesting post! I have learned that I need a big pile of ready printed photos to inpire me - having this really helps my whole process.

I love your idea of a DIY album. I have been taking photos here of projects we have done round our house because I had the idea of using them for a Saturday Five Things post. Now you've given me a different idea altogether!

  4. I couldn't commit to scrapbooking every day either. Does it count that I think about scrapbooking every day????? I think so! But I'm the same way, I can't just do it bcause someone says so, I need to feel it first. :)
