Several years ago, I had to make a quick business trip to New York and discovered for the first time the Toys R Us store in Times Square. The photos from that trip have been in my 2007 storage binder for a while, and I decided this week would be the perfect time to create a layout. I used the One Page Sketch #4 from Sketch Support for this layout. I rotated the sketch and then created a second page as well.
I was inspired to create the heart flower embellishments by Tammy's Flower Tutorial post. Several times I've seen scrappers using a heart punch to create flowers and have been meaning to give it try. I had printed one of Tammy's photos and put the printout and my heart punch on my craft table so I could try this technique on my next layout, which turned out to be this one about Toys R Us. I really like how easy these were to create with leftover scraps of my patterned papers.
Journaling reads: My first time to visit the Toys R Us store in New York! It is huge - a 3 story Ferris wheel inside the store! A life size dinosaur and amazing Lego displays. My only regret was that Robbie was not with me to enjoy the wonder.
Now for those of you who are feeling sorry for Robbie right now (he is the toy/trading card/game collector of the family after all!), we traveled to New York later that year and were able to enjoy the store together. Since then we've visited toy stores around the world. Here we are in front of the carousel inside the largest toy store in Moscow, Russia, aptly named The Children's World.
And it never fails to amaze me what can be made out of Legos, like this R2D2 I saw at Hamley's in London.
Of course, if you are traveling with children, it might be detrimental to your pocketbook to stop at every toy store along the way. (Actually, now that I think about it, it's sometimes detrimental to our pocketbook, too! LOL)
(BTW - I'll be back later today with the winner of my blogiversary giveaway!)
Very cute layout!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love that you flipped the sketch and made it into a two-page layout! It turned out awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteNow that's a great idea when travelling - I've been to Hamleys which was magical! When we were younger Hubby & I used to enjoy visiting zoos wherever we travelled (some great ones and some terrible places too) but thankfully we now live not too far from an excellent one at Chester.
ReplyDeleteI would love to coming shopping with you Melissa - it looks as if you cover all my favourite kinds of shop. I'm always envious when I read about trips to Barnes&Noble - we don't have anything that good here!
ReplyDeleteI love your layout! I love the mirror image of the two pages and the flowers look fanstastic. :) I worked at Toys R Us when I was in college. It was the coolest part time job!
ReplyDeleteI was IN that store! And I couldn't wait to get out! I think my reaction was the total opposite of yours. Yikes - noise and chaos and tons of little kids. eek.
ReplyDeleteBut you did a great layout with it.
What a lot of great toy stores you've visited! Love the bright happy feeling of your LO ... On holiday, I tend to shop as little as possible - I might venture into a chemist's for some mosquito bite cream, but that's all!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a fun travel tradition! I don't think I have a favorite toy store, but I did enjoy wandering around FAO Schwarz in NYC. Love your pages & that you documented this. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat use of Allison's sketch and such a fun layout! We've been to the Lego story at Disney in Florida, it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteCute layout!
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving a comment on my blog! Love this one about toys'r'us. For me, it's Hallmark stores( I love the cards and all the'bits' they sell-not to mention the Christmas Ornaments(swoonnn!)and , of course scrapbooking stores! I have them all looked up on Google before I even leave for the USA
ReplyDeleteOh, wonderful! Great layout! I love the lego R2D2, and so would the kids...
ReplyDeleteThat Toys R Us store looks like it is reason enough all by itself to make a trip to NYC...wow!
ReplyDeleteOh I absolutely LOVED Toys R Us in NYC, but then my kids really were like kids in a candy store since we couldn't get many of their faves in Dubai at that time. Nearly needed an extra suitcase going home. And what's not to love about a shop with a Ferris wheel in the middle of it! Great LO!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to trying to find scrapbook stores when I am on vacation and DS made us visit Walmart in Canada at every opportunity (can't remember why now!).
Great layout, I love the title. Did you hand cut it? :)
ReplyDeleteActually I used my Cricut to cut the title for this layout. I love having the Cricut - a gift from Robbie a couple of years ago!
