When I First Discovered Sketches

It was the spring of 2009. I had not created many layouts since I started taking digital photos the year before because I had not yet begun printing my photos. I had joined a Yahoo! group on scrapbooking, and one day a sketch challenge was posted. All I had to do was create a layout based on the sketch. This seemed simple enough, so I printed a few photos, pulled some papers and voila - I was hooked on sketches! I thought today I'd share with you some of the first layouts I created with sketches back in 2009. (I have no idea where these sketches came from since they were posted on the group site without that information.) These were also some of the first layouts that I photographed and shared.

How about you? Are you inspired by sketches or do you prefer to start with a blank page?

  2. I love sketches - I'm not as strong at layout as I would like to be - so I find them very helpful. I like your layouts, and these are great sketches - I might have to try them. Of course, I'll never be able to scrap as fast as I collect sketches! Can you?

  3. I love sketches and use them a lot...both for scrapbooking and cardmaking...though I do often play a bit loose with them.

  4. I love sketches too and just need to try and find some time to do more of my own scrapping instead of doing stuff for my classes! lol Great pages and fun to look back, isn't it? I did the same with some posts today...

  5. I always used to do my own thing, but lately I've really gotten into sketches, even if I go off on a bit of a tangent from them! Love your layouts, sketches clearly work for you xx

  6. I used to use them, but haven't for a long time. Lots of times the design is in my head as I print off the photos... but I would not hesitate if I needed some inspiration to use a sketch. I especially like the locks of love one :)

  7. I mainly use sketches too - or look through my magazines at other peoples layouts - I find they kick start my creativity.

  8. I find that I'm more likely to look through magazines than use sketches, but I always love to see what you come up with when you use one

  9. I do like sketches. I'm using them more than I used to. But I have a hard time finding a sketch whose photo orientation and dimensions match the ones I want to scrap. I think if I had to choose, I'd start from scratch over using a sketch. But since I don't have to choose - I wont! In fact, I'm working on a layout right now for the Sketch challenge at Ella Publishing!

  10. I love to use sketches! Some of my layouts look very like the sketch, others are used as a base to get me going! I like to use Pencillines and also Shimelle's sketches on her blog and the ones on Scrapology.

  11. I usually just start with photos and cardstock and build from there. I often find trying to follow a sketch stymies me. Course I'm one of those rebels who always has to change something up to make it my own!
