There's only one copy of each of these "self-published" books and they reside on a shelf in my craft room. I've taken the posts from my blog and formatted them into a book for each year that I've been blogging.
Originally I looked into the idea of a Blurb book or something similar, but I was unhappy with the limited formatting options and the amount of time it would take to edit each one. So, I simply copied my blog posts into a Word document and formatted them to my liking. I printed these at home, then had them bound at our local Staples.
It makes me smile to see these books sitting on the shelf, showcasing my writing and crafting and thoughts and ideas over the past few years.
Have you turned your blog into a book? Which format did you use?
This is something I've been talking about doing for ages. I like your uncomplicated approach to it..that could just work for me too. I'm getting close to 600 posts now, so I'd love to be able to page through them easily. A great reminder!
ReplyDeleteI started blogging in 2007 and have a book from each year. I printed the first one myself, but after that, I've used "Blog2print." You have a lot of choices for formatting and it comes to you in a week or less in a nice hard-bound form. However you print your blog---doesn't matter as long as you just do it! Your family will be glad you did.
ReplyDeleteI have over seven years of blogging to do, and it just seems overwhelming. Nonetheless, I'd love to do this. I'm off to check out Barbara's link.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea! I haven't even thought of doing this but now that you've shown yours, the idea has been planted. Love the easy approach you took. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so lazy. I wonder if I have a friend who would do this for me? LOL
ReplyDeleteTry #2...
ReplyDeleteI have thought about this but haven't done it. I would definitely like to preserve the more thoughtful posts - less sure about the ones just showcasing photography and scrapbooking since that is "published" elsewhere... How labor intensive was it for you to copy/paste into a word doc?
Apologies from this bad blog friend...I have just caught up with your last six posts...how did THAT happen?!
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about putting my blog posts into print, but have never got around to it!
Alison xx
I was just thinking about doing something similar too. I'm over 800 posts, so I want to figure out a way to cull and organize them first. Your solution looks very doable - I'm impressed that you've kept up with it so well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid thing to have done and I can't imagine how long that took! Our blogs also tell the stories of our lives, especially the crafting ones, which would just get lost otherwise ...
ReplyDeleteI'm not a good blogger, I'm so hit and miss and certainly wouldn't have anywhere enough for a book, but oh what a great idea
ReplyDeleteThat is a awesome idea Melissa! These look fantastic! tfs
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I've looked at Blurb and not liked the layouts, but this is a great way to do it.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome Melissa! My first thoughts though were the cost of ink. What brand of printer do you have?
ReplyDeleteI wanted to do this too BUT in April I crashed the database on my blog and lost the whole thing. I started over of course, but everything prior was lost. BAD ME!
Love this! II had thought about doing it when people first started talking about Blurb but I don't want every single post included...like the Sunday Songs of Praise that are just youtube links. This sound more doable.
ReplyDeleteThis may be just the path for me. I have over 700 posts right now and wouldn't want to include all of them or every pic (like the Sunday video links). I just went over to Blog2Print and my blog has over 2000 pics. I plugged in Jan 1, 2012 to Dec 31, 2012 just to get a feel for price (I 've been blogging 5 years) and it was over $80 (184 pages!!)for the one year. Thanks for the food for thought, Melissa!
