After five plus years of blogging, I still enjoy writing and preparing posts, reading comments, and interacting with the many friends I've made through blogging. However, over the past few months I've struggled with finding the INSPIRATION to write and post as often as I would like. It seems fewer and fewer readers are commenting, and I sometimes wonder how many of you are still out there reading along. Of course, I've noticed that I don't comment as often as before either. When I'm traveling I often read blogs on my phone, but it's too cumbersome to comment.
As I've reflected on this recently, I realized that my lack of motivation to blog could also be that I've gotten in a rut with my posts. I really like to share my layouts and am doing a pretty good job of that as I continue to work toward completing our 2011 albums. (In fact, here's a two-page layout I created to showcase photos from Robbie's MBA graduation that year!)
I'm also doing great with my monthly INSPIRATION updates. However, I realized that I've not take time for the other posts that I also enjoy (and that others hopefully find interesting/ informative/entertaining!) - books reviews, organizing projects, glimpses of life around here, recipes I've tried, and things I'm learning. For example, did I tell y'all that I got to spend time with Cheri recently? She was in Texas to visit her mother, and we met up for lunch and a stroll through the Frisco Mercantile.
In an effort to get out of this rut, I'm joining in with Cate of life behind the purple door as she blogs every day in May. She's provided a list of prompts for each day and will also be hosting a daily link up. Most of the items on the list are things I already enjoy sharing (what I'm reading this week, foods we eat), however there are a few prompts that will challenge me to dig deeper to produce a post (the most important lesson my mother ever taught me, what would I do with a million dollars).
I still plan to share my INSPIRATION update and some of my crafty creations throughout the month, so I may even post more than once on some days. Of course, there's also the possibility that I'll miss a few days! But I'm looking forward to using Cate's prompts to blog along every day in May. Want to join us? Click HERE for all the details.
I hear you about blog commenting, it's even hard from ipad! (I just happen to be sitting at my computer today!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing my post, I'm so excited that it's given you some inspiration for writing and sharing. I look forward to reading.
this sounds like a good idea, I know I don't blog as much as I used to.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it! I've got a shout out to you planned for my blog on Friday. I find that lately my weekend updates get the most comments
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit sad that phones seem to be cutting down that personal contact comments bring..I always enjoy the interaction and chat and the connections. We can't make connections if we never say anything. I'll be cheering you on as you blog every day in May!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog - you bring so much inspiration and ideas into my world. Love the idea of blog everyday in May. Looking forward to your posts - Ann
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you and Cheri together...meeting blog friends is such fun.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I'm frequently guilty of reading quickly....and not getting round to commenting....I must try harder!
I'm guilty too. I rarely read blogs on my computer so it's more difficult to write a comment. I'm also usually eating too. 😃
ReplyDeleteThat's a big commitment, but I know how well you follow through on these challenges you set for yourself! I checked out the list and will be looking forward to your posts.
ReplyDeleteI try to leave a comment on at least one blog post a week for each person I visit. So although I may not comment on every blog post you make I am reading them all! Also, I agree, much easier to comment on a computer than on an iPad or phone, but I do try to make the effort. I love your blog and find it so inspiring and interesting to read. Looking forward to your May posts - I thought about joining in, but with my work commitments and some family problems atm I think it would be silly to put myself under pressure to do this too! Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteI'm in a bit of the blogging doldrums myself - lack of inspiration combined with lack of good light for photographs, and over the last two weeks internet connectivity problems, which has meant I haven't been reading and comments on others blogs as much, so I've been missing out on the inspiration that my blogging friends bring me. See how out of practice I am, what a run on sentence that was. In any case, I'll be reading all your posts, but probably not as regularly as you write them. Blog on!
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to get in the blog ho-hum status. I find that taking a few days for a break helps and spend that time doing fun things or crafting new stuff. Love your layout in this post!
ReplyDeleteMy mission tonight has been to google Stephanie Ackerman/Documented Faith bloggers and visit and leave a comment, so you have been visited and I'm leaving you a comment! Aren't you blessed? smile! I have a like button on my blogs, so if people are too busy to comment, they can click that little button to say I've been here! It's been a very interesting journey tonight. I got in one of those "ruts" last year on my gratitude blog and God reminded me that I need to think of the ordinary to be grateful for, not just the extra-ordinary. Blessings! By the way, your yellow background woke me up! Cheery!
