We're halfway through the month, and so far I have been successful with my goal to follow along with Cate and her challenge to blog every day in May. However, today's prompt really had me stumped.
What would you do with a million dollars? It's a pipe dream for many, winning the lottery. How would you spend the money if your numbers came up?
This is a difficult question for me to answer because, as a general rule, I don't spend money I don't have. (Not to mention the fact that I don't play the lottery!) I'm a huge proponent of living within your means. Don't misunderstand though, I definitely dream of things I'd like to have or places I'd like to visit or things I want to do (as evidenced by my 50 Things To Do Before I'm 50 list), however I'm realistic about which things are affordable right now. I'm also willing to work to make those dreams come true, whether that means getting a job to add more to our income or cutting back other expenses.
In all honesty, I have done more in my lifetime that I ever dreamed was possible as a young adult, so maybe that makes it easy for me to be a little glib about this question. It hasn't all come easily, but I've traveled places and done things that were never even on my bucket list. There are things in our life right now that we'd like to be different, but overall it's a wonderful life and I'm not sure that a million dollars could improve the things that really matter. Oh yes, we'd be able to help others more and give more to worthy causes and the money might make life easier and a little more FUN . . . plus Robbie could finally have that Corvette and a life-size Lost in Space robot.
However, it doesn't always take a lot of money to change things. One of my goals this year was to re-decorate our guest bathroom. I was tired of the yellow duck theme that I've enjoyed for many, many years.
It might be a while before we get around to installing new floor tiles and repainting the bathroom, so I simply took all the ducks and yellow items from the bathroom and added a few blue items to create a more refreshing updated room.
This was a quick and simple project with minimal cost ($30 for new towels & washcloths), but it makes me smile every time I see it!
Yes, I did just turn this post about a million dollars around so I could share this FUN re-decorating project! (sly grin)
So, what would you do with a million dollars?
Your bathroom really does look lovely.
ReplyDeleteI think I might buy a place in a different country...even a little flat in London would be nice
So Robbie's "out of this world" dream is to own a life-size Lost in Space robot (cracks me up) but what is yours? There has to be something frivilous and not within your current budget that you wish for even if having it wouldn't really matter? Maybe you would just use found money to travel the world and meet all your blog friends in person? I think that would be a ton of FUN and very INSPIRATIONAL!
ReplyDeleteWHAT??? The ducks are GONE? Boohoo....
ReplyDeleteLOL Cheri - yes, my dream would definitely be to travel around the world (& meeting blog friends along the way would make it so much more FUN).
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! A million dollars? I'd help my kids with a down payment for a house, save some for a rainy day, and travel more!
ReplyDeleteThe small change totally revamped the look of your bathroom - I enjoy a little rearranging/redorating now and then too. After donating to a few kid-focused charities, I think we would end up with a little cabin/cottage on a lake somewhere. Hubby would like that a lot - and I'd get to decorate it!!
ReplyDeleteThe new look in your bathroom looks beautiful. If I had a million dollars I would spend it on experiences not things. Travel, Helping people, paying for my kids education and maybe more education for me.
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom looks great! If I had that money I would like for Hugh and I to be able to give up working full time and take things a little easier. I would also like to buy both children a home so that I would know that they were settled.
