This post is the nineteenth in a blog series where I’m exploring various aspects of INSPIRATION. When I chose INSPIRATION as my word for this year, my first thoughts were about finding, acting on and (in some cases) limiting INSPIRATION.
I also knew I wanted this word to motivate me not only in my
scrapbooking and crafting but also in my physical, spiritual and
intellectual goals. During my FUN year last year, I published a two-week
series entitled Where Does My Inspiration Come From?, which looked at the many different sources of INSPIRATION
specifically for scrapbook layouts. However, in this series, I’ll be
sharing a word for each letter of the alphabet (from A to Z) that relates to INSPIRATION along with my random and in-depth thoughts on that word and the various ways it relates to INSPIRATION in our lives.
S is for Style
Style is defined as "a manner of doing something" or "a distinctive appearance, typically determined by the principles according to which something is designed." Style can refer to a mode of living or behavior, a mode of fashion, or a mode of expressing thoughts or ideas in writing or an art form. There are so many areas of our lives that involve Style - decorating Style, fashion Style, writing Style, scrapbooking Style, learning Style, art Style, etc. We can find INSPIRATION for all these different areas of Style online and in magazines and in the world around us!
I've written before about my lack of a defined scrapbooking Style, so in today's post I'm focusing on fashion Style. I'm not sure how I would define my Style. It seems for most of my life I felt fairly pulled together fashion-wise and always enjoyed having my outfits color coordinated and my nails painted and my hair just so. But over the past few years, my Style is definitely much more casual and I don't always take as much time to pull everything together. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I am striving to pay more attention to how my clothes fit and whether they work well with my body shape.
I recently received a Stitch Fix that included items I really liked. (Some of you may remember from a previous post that Stitch Fix is an online service that will send you five items of clothing & accessories, straight to your home, for you to try out & either purchase or send back!) These items were chosen based on the Style profile I completed. I actually chose to keep all five items in this Fix.
While it's not typical, all the items in my box can be mixed and matched to create several outfits. The first four items all work particularly well together. (Dark Grey Straight Leg Jeans, Jersey Stripe Tiered Top, Faux Leather Lapel French Terry Vest, and Crew Neck Sweater)
The jeans are extremely comfortable and pair well with both of the tops. I like that they can be worn out or tucked inside my black boots. I also like that the vest can be worn two ways. I decided to add in some red items from my current wardrobe to create several more outfits. With the addition of another pair of black jeans, I actually think these outfits will be perfect for our upcoming holiday vacation.
I almost didn't keep the fifth item (an Open Drape Cardigan) in my Stitch Fix box because it's really not my Style. However, it is comfortable and long sweaters are a popular style right now. (And there's a 25% discount on the total if I keep all the items in the box, so this was actually "free.") I also think this new item will provide INSPIRATION for trying new outfits and combinations with my current wardrobe.
For INSPIRATION in my goal to dress a little nicer, I created this Be Stylish Vision Board that I'm planning to display on a wall in the closet where I choose my clothes each day!
In summary, there are many areas of Style and we can find INSPIRATION for different Style in many places.

I'm so glad you kept the long line cardigan, it really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI've been in a dreadful style rut this year and have really been trying to find me again and a style that fits and works in my life style x
I think the longer cardigan looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteEven tho we don't have Stitch Fix here I admit to being a fan of review reading. I love to see what bloggers got and what they kept. I'm sure I'd be giving it a go if we had it here too
You certainly have STYLE!! I love the red on you!
ReplyDeleteSo nice that Stitch Fix is able to send you items that actually fit. I had fit issues with just about everything they ever sent in the two boxes that I tried. Love the mix & match style and that long cardigan looks SO cozy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post. I enjoy these style shows featuring you and your fabulous smile and hearing what you do and don't like about certain styles for yourself!
ReplyDeleteI like the longer cardigan - and I think the outfits look good and with the red items they pop. Thanks for reminding me that I have a longer cardigan, I should dig it out :)
