Lesson 1 focuses on acrylic paint scraping and John 3:16. I first tried acrylic paint scraping when the new Illustrated Faith products were released earlier this year and shared some pages with this technique here and here. I used the INSPIRATION from this lesson to create a monochromatic illustration as a reminder that I am always loved by the Lord.
I used Illustrated Faith acrylic paints and these cute paint cards to create my background, then added stickers and punched hearts to complete the illustration.
Lesson 2 focuses on vellum and rub-ons. In my scrapbooking stash, I found a sheet of blue vellum and a package of rub-ons with the sentiment "Treasures of the Heart." I immediately thought of the verse in Matthew 6 that talks about laying up treasures in heaven.
I used a piece of Scor-Tape along the edge of the vellum to adhere it into my Bible. This is the first time I've added a page in my Bible, but I'll definitely be using this technique again as it's a great way to have a whole page to illustrate without covering up any scriptures.
Lesson 3 focused on tags and tip-ins. Here's a look at the page I created (and shared more about in an earlier post).
Lesson 4 focuses on page prep and watercolors. I don't normally prep my Bible pages before using watercolors, however after watching the lesson I wanted to experiment. I chose two Psalms and created similar pages.
I prepped the left page with Dina Wakley clear gesso, then used the same watercolors on each page. While it was easier to move the paint around on the prepped page, I didn't find much difference otherwise, and I have not had any trouble with watercolors bleeding through the page. I completed these two pages by stamping a border and adding letter stickers and journaling.
Lesson 5 focuses on watercolor pencils and includes stamped images to create a beautiful page illustrating Psalm 139. However, I chose a clock stencil that I traced using a Zig marker (which is waterproof) to create my image for Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. I then used my watercolor pencils and a Wink of Stella pen to paint the clock.
Honestly, I was not happy with the way it turned out, and I ended up adding some additional coloring over the clock outline. I highlighted the scripture with the yellow watercolor pencil, then used the clear Wink of Stella pen to blend and add shimmer (which doesn't really show in the photo). This is definitely not one of my favorite pages, however the time I spent reading and illustrating this scripture reminding me that there is a time for every purpose under heaven is what matters most!
Most of the techniques in this class are ones that I've already been using in my illustrated Bible journaling, however I'm enjoying working through the lessons, watching the videos, listening to the commentary on the scriptures, and learning little tips along the way. Even though I'm not following each lesson exactly, I appreciate the INSPIRATION to dive into the Word and create in my Bible. I'm definitely looking forward to completing the remaining five lessons.
