Honestly, we started talking about this several months ago. Because we do not have children, we wanted to have clear directives for settling our estate in the event something happened to both of us. Yes, it's a bummer talking about something like that happening, but we live in a world where the news is full of tragedies, senseless killings, disasters, terrorist attacks, and accidents. Having a will makes it so much easier for those left behind to take care of things. Otherwise, it takes much longer and lots more paperwork to get everything completed! (I know - I've settled several estates where there was not a will & it's not fun.)
I have to admit that I'm extremely excited to have this least FUN item checked off my 50 Things To Do Before I'm 50 list! Do you have a will? How often do you review/update it?
Sorry I haven’t commented in a long whille. I’ve been a reader still though and do enjoy a visit to your blog. We updated our wills a couple of years ago as the children had grown and Ben could be one of the executors now. We will probably revisit again in a year or so when the inheritance is all settled from Hugh’s mother’s estate as there will be changes to be made again.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many families I have seen torn apart from the fact that someone didn't have a will. Regardless of your situation, everyone needs a will! Your wise to revise yours!
ReplyDeleteWe revised our wills about 5 years ago. Our old one still had guardian clauses for both of them which was rather amusing.
ReplyDeleteWe just revised and updates our wills earlier this year. They were first written 10 years ago and it was surprising how many changes we made. It felt good to know that our wishes are current and up-to-date.
ReplyDeleteSmart thing to do. Yes we have wills, power of attorney, health directors & an executor all set up. Expensive but necessary.
